A bookseller arranging new hardbacks on a display table

Chosen by people who read them

Every book on our front tables has been read by at least one of our four booksellers, and the small handwritten card tucked under it says why in a few honest lines. A book that disappoints us does not get a card.

Ask at the counter for something like the last book you loved, and we will walk you to three shelves you might never have tried. Recommendations by email work the same way: tell us what you have been reading and we reply with a short list.

  • Handwritten cards on every front table
  • Reading suggestions by email within two days
  • Small presses and translated fiction given real space

Author evenings and reading groups

The back room seats forty, so every event is reserved by enquiry. Tell us which one and how many seats, and we confirm by email within a day.

How signed copies are described

Signed books are listed with exactly what the author wrote, because collectors care about the difference.

ListingWhat the author addedReturns
SignedA signature on the title pageWithin 30 days, unread
Signed and datedA signature with the date, usually written at an eventWithin 30 days, unread
Signed and linedA signature with a short line or quote from the bookWithin 30 days, unread
DedicatedA message to a person you name, written at an eventFinal sale

Signed copies are sent wrapped in card and tracked, so corners and jackets arrive as they left the shop.

What readers tell us (example reviews)

Asked for something like a favourite novel and left with three books from shelves never visited before. Two of them are now favourites too.
Lucia R.Recommendation at the counter
The blind date book came wrapped beautifully, with clues that were spot on. A genre never picked on purpose, finished in one weekend.
Sam W.Blind date with a book
A warm, funny author evening with good questions from the room, and the dedicated copy became a birthday present nobody else could have bought.

Questions for the booksellers

Can you order a book that is not on the shelves?

Yes. Any book in print can be ordered through the form or at the counter. Most arrive within a week, and we keep them aside for you for two weeks.

How do event seats work?

Send an enquiry with the event and the number of seats, and we confirm by email. Seats are paid for at the counter on the night, and the seat price comes off the book if you buy a copy.

Do you post signed copies?

Yes, wrapped in card and tracked. Dedicated copies are written at events and are a final sale, so please spell the name clearly in your enquiry.

Can books be returned?

Unread books in the condition they arrived can come back within 30 days for a refund or an exchange. Dedicated copies are personal, and they are the one exception.

Can an author or publisher hold an event here?

Yes. Use the form to propose a launch, a reading or a signing, with a rough date and the book. The back room seats forty, and we sell copies on the night.

Do you post books abroad?

Yes, to most countries. Postage is shown at checkout, and import taxes, where a country charges them, are paid on arrival.

About this sample page

Inside this sample independent bookshop website

Inkwell Lane Books is an invented independent bookshop, and this single page site demonstrates how a bookseller can sell online and fill an events room on AI Web Maker. The shop offers a signed hardback each month, a wrapped blind date with a book, a reading subscription, gift cards and a canvas bag, each with an option and an Add to bag button. Special orders have no price, so that card shows an Enquire button leading to the shop's form. Three event cards give the day, time and seat price of an author evening, a book club and a story morning. Between them, the shop and the events give readers two good reasons to come back.

The smaller sections are where the sample shows real bookselling knowledge. A table explains signed, dated, lined and dedicated copies, and the chips list every shelf from translated fiction to local history. A section about handwritten cards and email recommendations gives the shop a human voice, while the questions cover special orders, returns, posting abroad and hosting an author. Booksellers using AI Web Maker start by describing their shop and events, and the builder drafts pages they can rewrite in their own words. Like any good bookshop, the page invites a slow browse and makes the next step easy.
